Maria Emanuel Ryan, DDS, PhD is Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at the Colgate-Palmolive Company where she provides oversight and leadership to dental and dermal clinical organizations, knowledge management, scientific communications and the biosolutions team. Dr. Ryan previously served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Biology and Pathology at Stony Brook University where she was actively involved in teaching, clinical practice and research. She is the Past President of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR). Dr. Ryan has received numerous awards including NIH National Research Service Awards and a Physician Scientist Award. She was the recipient of the New Dentist Leadership Award from the Dental Society of the State of New York and received an achievement award from the American Dental Association. Dr. Ryan was the first recipient of the Victress Health Award which she received in Berlin, Germany in 2010 to recognize her educational and research efforts in the area of women’s health. Dr. Ryan is a Distinguished Alumnus of Stony Brook’s School of Dental Medicine and was a Fellow of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Ryan is a nationally and internationally known speaker and author who has appeared on multiple media outlets to discuss the role of the dental professional in the provision of optimal overall health care.

Dr. LaTonya Kilpatrick-Liverman leads the BioSolutions and Clinical Methods group at Colgate Palmolive Co. She and her Team are responsible for developing translational models, identifying health and disease associated biomarkers, and developing new clinical methods to better measure changes in the skin and oral cavity. LaTonya has over 25 years of experience conducting research in skin and oral biology. She is the author of several patents, book chapters, and journal articles, and has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Industrial Advisory Board at Rutgers University, and on the Biomaterials Symposium Advisory Board at Rutgers University. LaTonya feels strongly about exposing kids to science early on. She has volunteered in a number of education based outreach programs sponsored by Colgate Palmolive, the American Chemical Society, and various community groups. She finds joy leveraging every opportunity to give back and share her experiences. LaTonya holds a BA degree in Chemistry from Hampton University and a PhD degree in Chemistry from Princeton University.

Dr. Yun-Po Zhang is a Distinguished Fellow (VP Rank) at Colgate-Palmolive. He has assumed primary responsibility over the clinical dental research programs in support of global oral health business. He has been appointed as an adviser of the Entrepreneurial Sounding Board Program at Columbia University Business School and an adjunct professor at the Forsyth Institute that is affiliated with Harvard University. Dr. Zhang holds three US patents in dental caries prevention, has contributed to the publication of three books, and has authored over 180 publications in international scientific journals. He has been invited to speak at many international scientific meetings and has served as a keynote speaker at events. He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Dental Research, the AADR Fellowship Committee, and the IADR Awards Review Committee. He is currently an AADA Counselor and is serving on the joined AADR/IADR Publication Board. Dr. Zhang has received numerous awards throughout his career. He was named an ADA Honorary Member, was honored an AADR Fellow, and was a recipient of the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award from the Asian American Business Development Center in New York. Dr. Zhang holds a PhD in physical chemistry from Northeastern University, and completed post-doctoral training and held faculty positions in oral biology at Forsyth/ Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He also holds an executive MBA from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, a DDS with honors by Dalian Medical University in China. In addition, he holds a certificate of Authentic Leadership Program from Harvard Business School.

Dr. Jim Masters currently leads the early stage Biological Sciences research in Oral Care. He and his team are responsible for the basic innovation programs concentrated in the soft tissue, physical and surface sciences supportive of Colgate Palmolive’s global Oral Care business portfolio with research . Jim has over 25 years of experience and has actively led research teams in both the oral and personal care categories. The focus of his research has recently concentrated in skin and sweat physiology, skin microbiome research, oral microbiology and the study of bacteria/host response interactions to resolve early stage disease for improved oral health. He has authored several book chapters and published many articles in peer reviewed, internationally-recognized journals, holds more than 55 US Patents and was a long standing member of the International Standards Organization US Oral Hygiene Advisory Group. Jim received his BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Scranton and his PhD in Inorganic/Polymer Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Catalina Monroy is a Worldwide Director of the Colgate-Palmolive Company, providing global leadership to the team responsible for developing and recommending world-class flavors and fragrances that ensure the best tasting and smelling experience to the consumers. Her team supports Colgate’s Global Research & Development organization by developing and recommending flavors and fragrances for all Oral Care, Home Care and Personal Care Colgate-Palmolive brands. Catalina’s guidance and input to her teams has contributed to the launch of many successful products. As the flavor and fragrance group leader, Catalina has established strong partnerships with the Marketing, Consumer Insights and Product Development teams, facilitating a better understanding of the role of flavors and fragrances in Colgate-Palmolive products. Catalina joined Colgate in 2015, and brought bringing with her over 25 years of experience in the flavor industry, most recently with Firmenich. Since 2011, she worked as a Senior Flavorist for North America and Latin America Oral Care at the Firmenich U.S. affiliate in Plainsboro, NJ, where she strengthened her expertise in mint flavors and sensates for Toothpaste and Mouthwash applications and was the lead Flavorist providing flavor-creation support to Colgate. Catalina brings tremendous passion and dedication to her work while effectively adapting to diverse teams and cultures, enabling her to foster strong partnerships with key stakeholders. She enjoys mentoring junior flavorists and motivating them to walk the extra mile for success.

Dr. Bayardo Garcia Godoy currently works at the Colgate-Palmolive, Global Technology Center as a Senior Clinical Research Associate for the Oral Care global clinical studies. Dr. Garcia Godoy responsibilities include: data management systems, developing protocols and writing & editing manuscripts, managing components of proof of concept; pre-market and post-market clinical safety, and efficacy studies. He is involved in the process of editing and submitting protocols to local and international bioethics committees; the recruitment of potential voluntary participants; the administration of informed consent; the per-protocol education of study participants and proper management documentation, storage, dispensing and disposal of test studies materials.

Furthermore, Bayardo is leading the in-house clinical program and has shown competency in the execution of hands-on clinical examinations, proper documentation, reporting product safety and adverse events reports, and on the submission of accurate study closeout documents to the sponsoring agency and regulatory entities. All of this in accordance with approved research protocols, federal regulations and the sponsor’s policies and procedures.

Dr. Payal Arora currently works in Early Research oral care. She and her team is responsible for developing portfolio/pipeline of innovative natural technologies for delivering customized and precise oral care solutions based on specific consumer needs. Working with the global natural teams one of her key focus is to understand science behind regional traditional natural ingredients and helps translate that into unique products concepts and claims. Payal has over 18 years of R&D experience and broad expertise and background from big pharmaceutical drug industries (Roche and Janssen pharmaceuticals) in systemic diseases areas; Diabetes, Regenerative Medicine and Virology. She has authored 16 publications in some of the highest impact journals in the space and holds number of patents. Payal holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from India and Postdoctoral Fellowships in Virology and Oncology from South Korea and USA.

Dr. Venda Porter Maloney currently leads the Global Therapeutics Oral Care Product Development team. She and her team deliver innovative products to improve oral health through the prevention of plaque, tartar, malodor and diseases like gingivitis. Product development involves both the formulation of a stable delivery system for ingredients and the incorporation of elements which enable people to truly enjoy the usage experience. Venda began her Colgate career in 2007 as a research scientist working on new therapeutic technologies for Colgate Total toothpaste. She has been a key contributor to many new product innovations including Max White Optic Instant whitening toothpaste, Optic White toothpaste, Plax mouthwash and Colgate Total. During her time at Colgate, Venda has published in peer reviewed journals, presented at international conferences, and been granted more than 20 US patents. Venda holds a BA degree in Physics and Chemistry from Hamline University and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

At the Colgate-Palmolive Global Technology Center in Piscataway, Dr. Juliana Gomez works within the Clinical Methods Team where she manages and supervises the human clinical testing programs for a pipeline of next generation products, methods, and devices, and manages design, commissioning, monitoring, reporting, and data analysis for these human clinical studies. Her current work specializes in advanced diagnostic methods, whitening, patient reported outcomes, public health initiatives, and innovation in dentistry. Dr. Gomez holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with specialization in Pediatric Dentistry from France and Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Dental Medicine with specialization in Public Health from the UK. She has a strong academic and industry career with numerous peer-reviewed publications and possesses in-depth and broad expertise in Dental Caries, Dental Erosive Tooth Wear, Fluorosis, 3D Scanning, Fluorescence in Dentistry, Statistical Analysis, and Clinical Study Management. Her work has won her awards for Global Technology Excellence (2017) and You Can Make a Difference (2019).

Dr. Shira Pilch is currently the director of China Global Technology Center, located in Guangzhou, China. Previously, Shira was a director in Oral Care, Early Research. She and her Early Research team are responsible for wide range of research programs involving Physical Sciences, with a concentration in the hard tissue and active delivery areas. Shira has spent over 20 years in Oral Care with a cross-functional experience that includes Early Research, Product Development, and Implementation & Support. During her time at Colgate, Shira has spearheaded the development of many innovative technologies that have delivered a wide range of oral care benefits in both the professional and consumer markets. She has authored several book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and she holds more than 20 US and international patents. Shira is currently a voting member of the US Technical Advisory Group for the International Standard Organization. Shira received her BS degree with Honors in Chemistry from Tsinghua University and her PhD in Biophysical Chemistry from Rutgers University.

Dr. Cajetan Dogo currently works in the Whitening Product Development Oral Care Division where he focuses on innovating to support Colgate’s global whitening portfolio. His responsibilities include the development of efficacious formulations, identifying, and supporting compelling product claims. Cajetan’s expertise in small molecule synthesis, catalysis, and biochemistry has enabled him to be a unique contributor to the whitening program. He has been involved in multiple product launches and led a program on tooth stain fundamentals which dimensionalized knowledge on stains and allowed for the development of methods to communicate the potency of our premium whitening formulations in differentiated ways. Cajetan holds a Ph.D from Johns Hopkins University and a BSc. for Coppin State University. Prior to joining Colgate in 2013, he performed his postdoctoral research at the National Institutes of Health studying HIV cell entry inhibition as an antiviral mechanism. Cajetan has contributed 12 peer reviewed scientific articles in the fields of biology and chemistry.

Dr. Joseph Steele is a Research Scientist in the Physical Sciences Early Research Division. Within the Biomaterials and Advanced Delivery Research Group, he focuses on the use of new materials and delivery forms to improve the treatment of oral issues. Joseph’s background in materials engineering, drug delivery, and regenerative medicine brings a new perspective to the Physical Sciences research at Colgate. Joseph holds a BSc and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University Canada and a PhD in Materials Engineering from Imperial College London, UK. Prior to starting at Colgate in 2018, Joseph performed post-doctoral work in managing the 3D Printing and Bioplotting Materials research at the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials and helped establish the Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine Research Division at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden. Joseph has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed scientific articles in the field of materials science. To celebrate the completion of his PhD in 2015, Joseph established an annual scholarship in his home town to encourage higher education in STEM.
